South Coast Pickleball FAQ:

Competitions, Divisions & DUPR Explained

What is South Coast Pickleball?

South Coast Pickleball runs structured weekly singles and doubles competitions in the Illawarra region. Our competitions are division-based and designed to help players improve their match play, build their DUPR rating, and compete in a consistent, organised environment.

Is this for social play or competitions only?

Our focus is structured competition play rather than casual social sessions. Matches are organised by division and follow a competitive ladder format. If you're looking for structured weekly pickleball competition in the South Coast region, this is for you.

What skill levels can enter?

We currently run Division 1 and Division 2 singles competitions:

• Division 1 – Advanced players (typically DUPR 3.5+)
• Division 2 – Intermediate players building consistency

If you’re unsure which division suits you, start in Division 2 and we’ll help place you correctly.

How do I join a competition?

Visit the Singles Competition Page or Doubles Competition Page and book your division. Once registered, you’ll receive confirmation and match details for the upcoming session.

Do I need my own partner for doubles?

You can bring your own partner or register individually. If you register solo, we’ll help match you with another player where possible.

Where are competitions held?

Competitions are held in the Illawarra region. Division 1 singles are currently played at Beaton Park Leisure Centre in Gwynneville, while other competitions (including Division 2 Pickleball Singles) are hosted at our primary location in Figtree. Check each competition pages for venue details.

How often do competitions run?

Our singles competitions run weekly. Doubles competitions are TBA at the moment. Single day tournaments run seasonally or quarterly depending on demand.

What happens if I can’t make a match?

There is no lock in to attend every week. You can book in on a week to week basis. Ladders reset every 6 or 8 weeks, prizes are awarded and high performers will be eligible to move up divisions. However, you must attend 6 out of the 8 weeks (or 4 out of the 6 weeks) to be eligible for a prize or moving to a higher a division.

Do you track rankings or ladders?

Yes. All divisions operate on a live ladder system that is updated live at the time of gameplay as you enter in your scores after each match. Players are provided with the form to enter their scores into at the time of the competition each week. Players can enter the scores in after each match from their mobile phone, as long as they have an internet connection.

You can access the ladders here:

- Division 2 Singles Ladder

Do I need my own paddle?

We recommend bringing your own paddle. Limited spare paddles may be available for new players.

What if I only want to play socials and not competition?

South Coast Pickleball primarily focuses on structured competition. If you're looking for purely social sessions, we recommend checking local community pickleball groups in Wollongong or the Illawarra region. We recommend various clubs in the South Coast area on our Sponsors page.
